More than two decades of diving and teaching experience.

Andrew Grundy is a UK-based scuba diving, freediving and Emergency First Response instructor with more than two decades of diving and teaching experience.

This website brings together the practical side of Andrew's diving life under both his name and AGScuba: teaching, diver safety, freediving, first aid, technical and rebreather experience, underwater photography, travel and marine life.

How Andrew Started Diving

Andrew first tried scuba diving in 2003 during a pool try dive while on holiday in Lanzarote. The experience stayed with him, and after returning home he signed up with a local dive centre for an Open Water referral course, completing his qualifying dives in the Red Sea.

In March 2004, he took a Peak Performance Buoyancy course in a cold, muddy UK lake with water around 5 degrees C. That confirmed diving had become far more than a holiday activity.

Becoming a Diving Professional

Andrew went PADI Pro in 2006, became a PADI Staff Instructor in 2008 and has since progressed to PADI Master Instructor.

His background now covers recreational scuba, instructor development support, specialty training, freediving, Emergency First Response, technical diving, sidemount and rebreather experience.

Teaching Approach

His teaching style is practical, calm and experience-led. He is especially interested in helping divers build confidence, improve buoyancy, think more clearly underwater and develop safer habits before problems become emergencies.

Freediving

Freediving has added another dimension to Andrew's time in the water. As a PADI Freediving Instructor, he values relaxation, breathing, body awareness, mental control and safe progression.

Technical, sidemount and rebreather experience.

Andrew's diving has grown beyond recreational scuba into technical diving, sidemount and rebreather experience. That background gives AGScuba a practical safety focus, especially around planning, awareness and staying calm underwater.

Emergency First Response, first aid and unusual diving work.

Andrew's wider safety background includes Emergency First Response instruction, first aid, diver emergency thinking and rescue-focused experience.

He has experience as a marine medic with British Divers Marine Life Rescue, has supported Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit in Scotland, helped clean the ocean tank at Blue Reef Aquarium and worked as an accredited rescue diver for Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt on the Status Quo film Bula Quo.

Underwater photography and MacroDivers.com.

Underwater photography has become an important part of Andrew's diving life. His photography interests include macro life, nudibranchs, reef scenes, wrecks, travel diving and the small details that many divers swim past.

This interest links closely with MacroDivers.com, a separate project focused on macro diving education, nudibranchs, underwater photography and responsible marine life awareness.

A personal record of skills, places and underwater experience.

AGScuba.com and AndrewGrundy.com are now two addresses for this one official website: a record of the places, skills, qualifications and underwater experiences that have shaped Andrew's diving life.
